Calvary Chapel: Mini- Moses Bob Grenier Sues His Own Son! The wounded recognized the wounded.–Nora Roberts. Frightened child- Neon Zero- Public domain. In our 3+years of blogging, two comments have stood out. In the comment section we mentioned that we would like to carefully look at Calvary Chapel since there seemed to be a fair amount of controversy surrounding this group of churches. The other involved our determination to visit Steven Furtick’s church in Charlotte, again due to controversial posts and comments throughout the blogosphere. The other said to investigate any churches we desire but we were not to discuss Calvary Chapel. Both of these comments struck me as vaguely threatening but were not repeated so we blew it off to overly zealous preacher apologetics. However, I remember telling both commenters that leaving strongly worded statements, as they did, only serves to induce us to investigate said churches. One must ask the question, . He promotes the “Moses Model” of leadership. Basically, this means that the pastor is in charge and can overrule, and even fire, his leaders if they disagree with him. This also means that the pew sitter cannot disagree with the pastor’s actions and teachings in any significant way. But, if something bad happens in one of the churches, the big boys can disavow any ability to intervene. It's called the . Many believe that Greg Laurie is the baby Super Moses in waiting. Please be aware that when your church pushes Laurie’s “crusades” they are promoting the Calvary Chapel brand of leadership. I found enough reports to rival, and even surpass, the SGM and CJ Mahaney scandals of the past couple of years. My husband and I both agree that there is a hill to die on and that involves the protection of children and the punishment of the offender to prevent further abuse. How do you know that the sons are telling the truth? The painful reality about child abuse is that it usually happens behind closed doors. And, when it involves a pastor, there are many who will automatically assume that “a man of God. Moses, would never do such a thing. This line of thinking demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of the course of the history of God’s people. When one lies about details, it is very easy to get “tripped up. That is why they are forced to take this approach to revealing the alleged “sins of their father.”. Julie Anne Smith, our fellow glamorous zealot over at at BGBC Survivors, has given us permission to copy and use as much of her two posts on the subject as we wish. She called us a number of months ago to say her pastor, due to comments she wrote on review sites, was suing her. She won that lawsuit as did our good friend, Tom Rich, who also sued a former church which interfered with his right of anonymity. Twitter is investigating the event as we speak. We said they would win and win they did! I would say that should strike some fear into the hearts of the Calvary Chapel Moses dudes. It is vital that pastors understand that it is very difficult to sue and win a lawsuit on defamation. Church members should also understand that they will be paying the legal bills,in one form or another, via their contributions to the church. Bob Grenier will rue the day that he brought this lawsuit against his son and others. He will be exposed and this will have a negative impact on the ministry of Calvary Chapel. Greg Laurie, Chuck Smith and others would do well to nip this one in the bud. It will cost them a great deal of money and they will be left with a black eye in the court of public opinion. Get something straight. People HATE bullies. We have a prime directive. Unless you acknowledge the pain of the victims of abuse, you will be called out and seen for what you are: “sycophants.”. Here and here are the two links to both of Julie Anne Smith’s posts. I plan to combine both of them into one post. Please visit her site for the full posts. Julie Anne did a wonderful job telling the story. The title of her two posts are : Calvary Chapel Pastor Pastor Bob Grenier: Stories of Abuse As Told by His Children and Pastor Bob Grenier of Calvary Chapel to File Defamation Lawsuit Against Son and Blogger? You can find Alex's personal story here. I am the son of Pastor Bob Grenier of Calvary Chapel Visalia. My brothers and I were physically abused by “Pastor Bob” for our entire time in his home. His board and elders, including Raul Ries (Calvary Chapel Golden Springs), Gary Ruff (Calvary Chapel Foothills) and David Rosales (Calvary Chapel Chino Valley) have ignored the allegations and the requests to have a face- to- face Matt. Bob to answer his accusers and give his side of the story. Pastor Dave Rolph of Calvary Chapel Pacific Hills has agreed to mediate the meeting. Many requests have been made to Bob’s board, elders and staff. It’s a dead issue between us. Bob needs to address it and reconcile with Alex and Paul. EVERYTHING ALEX DESCRIBED IN HIS LETTER TO BOB HAPPENED!!!!!!! If you choose to lie and say it never happened and that Alex and Paul are lying I am prepared to produce a laundry list of people including neighbors, coaches, ex classmates (who used to make fun of the welts on my butt, back and legs, in the showers) and friends that I confided in real time while it was going on. There are also two people that witnessed first hand me being screamed at and smacked in the face repeatedly while I was forced to hold my hands to my side.”. Here is Alex's younger brother, Paul's account. Paul is the 3rd son in the family, Bob Grenier's biological son. I have copied a portion here and added paragraphs to make it easier to read. Keep in mind, this is only a portion of the full text. Keith Krell Keith is the senior pastor of Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane, WA and associate professor of biblical exposition at Moody Bible Institute–Spokane. With Irene Papas, Aharon Ipalé, Joseph Shiloach, Marina Berti. A biopic of Moses, who found the Ten Commandments and parted the Red Sea. Live and archived Christian broadcasts from radio stations across the United States. I haven’t commented publicly on this issue, but reading through these posts has brought up memories and feelings that I have tried to numb and forget.”. I want to talk a bit about what it is to be brutal. Brutal is making your children watch while one of your brothers is beaten, punched and kicked. Brutal is laughing at your child after you have beaten and humiliated him in front of his family. Brutal is hitting your child with a wooden log all over his body. Brutal is making your children go in the backyard and “pick the switch” that they will be whipped with all over their backs and buttocks. Brutal is making your child count out loud the number of times they will be hit. Brutal is making your child thank you and tell them how wonderful and responsible it is that you just beat them.”. Brutal is locking your child in a small, dark closet. Brutal is punching your child in the face and then kicking him out his home because you are so afraid that it is going to be front page news that you are a child abuser disguised as a Pastor. Brutal is then kicking that child out and laughing at him because you have cut him off from his mothers and brothers. Brutal is not letting your wife talk to her son for 1. Brutal is threatening the rest of your children that they will be cut off if they talk to their estranged brother.”. Brutal is telling your child to put their hands behind their backs and that it is ok because you aren’t going to hit them. Brutal is then hitting that child in the face so hard that they fall to the ground. Brutal is humiliating, degrading, and psychologically torturing your children for hours on end and then calling it a day and expecting everything to go back to “normal”. Brutal is ruining your son and soon to be daughter- in- law’s wedding day because you refuse to take family pictures with your estranged son and behave like a grown, civilized adult.”. Brutal is making your child eat an entire pack of cigarettes and swallow them and laugh at them as they vomit and cry because they tried smoking in high school. Brutal is telling your children you don’t love them. Brutal is telling your children you wished they were never born and you never planned on having them. Brutal is beating one child so badly that they are scared and whimpering like a small animal, and then having another one of your children sit on your lap and profess how they are your favorite and how much you love them. Brutal is watching your older brother and sister- in- law in agony over the fact that they might lose their newborn baby boy.”. Where was the mom all of this? Brutal is hearing from others how sad your Mom is that she doesn’t have a relationship with her children and grandchildren. Brutal is then seeing your Mom in public and having her walk right by you like she didn’t know you from Adam. Brutal is hearing that your youngest brother called one of his older brothers on Mother’s Day (not a great day for us) and having him glibly ask how his Mother’s Day is going.”. In addition to losing his temper and abusing the children, Alex recounts the abuse of his mother by his step- dad and pastor, Bob Grenier. Yes, Bob was very abusive to my mom, screamed and yelled, broke stuff in front of her in rages (there’s a specific instance he actually shared from the pulpit joking about it. He picked a wooden chair up over his head in a rage and put a gash in the popcorn ceiling and then smashed it into pieces on the floor in front of all of us. He laughed as if it was no big deal when recounting the ordeal, we were all scared to death that he was going to kill us). Here is an encounter that took place between Alex and his mother. My real dad was a hippy drummer and he was 'saved' in the Tent as well. Both were druggie hippies saved in the very early days of the Calvary Chapel Movement.”. Alex's parents were married.
